VIRGILIO G. Nonoy founded his consulting firm dealing with Family Corporations, Franchise Companies, pioneering projects and turn-around programs in varied industries (FMCG, food/beverage, retailing, manufacturing, trading, distribution, real estate, etc.). He sits as independent director of various client – companies while providing strategic directions to some business ventures he has equity shares.  Simultaneously, he provides mentoring and special courses for middle level executives and managers.  He loves to share his insights in the areas of Entrepreneurship, Business Management, Leadership, Values Transformation, Culture-Building, Workplace Spirituality and Workforce Motivation. Nonoy’s corporate entrepreneurial mindset as well as keen understanding of the dynamics of family corporations brought significant impact in companies he worked with.  After completing his MBA in the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), he worked with Landco in 1991 for the real estate projects of the Alcantara Family in Davao.  Then later, he turned around the Vismin operations of La Tondena Distillers, Inc (Ginebra San Miguel, Inc.), where he appointed and mentored 30 territory distributors.  It was during this time that he provided programs and saw the growth of salesmen turned-entrepreneurs, dealer peddlers  turned -professional distributors, while transforming sales-driven managers into market-driven business managers.

Despite a promising career in San Miguel Corporation, he gathered courage and ventured as an entrepreneur with his Marketing and Distribution business in the Vismin area while serving as freelance management consultant specializing on strategic planning and growing business ventures.  He successfully implemented his strategic and entrepreneurial acumen when in 2002 – 2010, he drove the growth of Julie’s Franchise Corporation as President and Chief Operating Officer.  He transformed this Cebu homegrown mom-pop type of family business into a multi billion – peso national brand that owns the biggest bakeshop chain in the country…and Julie’s became the country’s hall-of-fame record-holder Most Outstanding Franchise Company of 600+ Julie’s Bakeshop stores nationwide.  After 8 years, he pursued to help other promising enterprises. most especially, family – run businesses that may be challenged not only in growing the business but in managing family dynamics with respect to Succession, Professionalization and Governance.

Self – driven, he obtained education through scholarship grants: A Cocofed scholar at the University of San Carlos, he finished cum laude and placed ninth (9th) in the Chemical Engineering Board Exam. Nonoy pursued learning, earning his Master’s degree in Business Management at the Asian Institute of Management as a full ADB Scholar.  He is one of the few Certified Franchise Executives (CFE) in the country, accredited by the World Franchise Council.  He is an adjunct professor of the Asian Institute of Management on special short courses for Executives and Entrepreneurs.  He conducts exclusive programs for family enterprises and handholds them in the Execution of Family Governance and Strategic Corporate roadmaps.  As Chairman of the AIM-Alumni Assn. Cebu Chapter, he brought some AIM Executive Education Courses in Cebu.  He was awarded as 2010’s Most Outstanding Alumnus of the University of San Carlos.

Nonoy, as an active player or as an enabler, often speaks to share insights on a few successful milestones achieved by some of the family-run businesses he is engaged with.  His thesis: The Success of Unblocking Constraints or Obstacles in Growing Family Businesses Leads to Geometric Inclusive Growth.

His visionary and strategic mindset grounded on his advocacies for service steered him in leadership positions in various industry, business, management, socio – civic and religious organizations, e.g. the Phil. Franchise Association, the AIM Alumni Association, Rotary Int’l. District 3860, Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Management Association of the Phils. and many others.  Yet he strives to balance his life: He is a covenanted disciple of the Bukas Loob sa Diyos (BLD), a catholic renewal group (pioneering in the Corporate Outreach Program), a convenor or Dilaab Foundation, a multi-sectoral volunteer organization advocating for good governance.  He has a strong conviction that business is a vocation and calling, a great opportunity to serve God and country and should therefore include in its scorecard, how the business is adding value to benefit mankind.
